What is the purpose of aerospace education?

Aerospace education is a method of fusing the state-mandated courses of study with aviation and space themes in order to enhance the learning experience.  Through these dynamic themes, students realize a greater sense of excitement, motivation, and modern relevancy in the learning process by applying math and science to fascinating real world settings. 

Why is the program called von Braun Scholars?

The von Braun Scholars program is named for the famed rocket engineer and space visionary Dr. Wernher von Braun who was a long-time citizen of Alabama .  Dr. von Braun was a major supporter of education. In addition to regularly exposing students to the captivating concepts of aerospace, he recognized the tremendous value of students learning math and science as well as being enriched by the arts.

Is VBS the first program of its kind?

Yes.  VBS is the first program to develop curricula to state course of study learning objectives that is themed with aviation and space.  VBS is also an innovator in seeking true partnerships between the community and the classroom, a step beyond mere traditional sponsorship programs.  

Is VBS for all ages?

VBS is for all ages of students from K-12.  Current development work is focused on the 3rd, 5th, and 7th grades.

Can home schooled children participate?

Yes.  We encourage public schools, private schools, and home schools to participate in this revolutionary program.

Can we expect VBS to become a national program?

VBS is already being made available to educators in all states.  VBS will seek to be promoted on a large-scale national basis soon.
