VBS was developed through a NASA grant to address several major concerns facing our nation’s education process.  Chief among them is the fact that today’s students respond much differently to the education process than did their parents before them.  With the influx of high tech in almost every aspect of their lives, many students are simply not energized by traditional teaching techniques.  In addition to these “high tech kids,” many other students come from broken homes, unengaged families, or socio-economically depressed communities.  They often face harsh personal realities and lack positive moral influences.

Collectively, these students are generally uninspired and unmotivated to learn.  Many students do not see the value in most learning.  They simply do not comprehend the importance of the education process. As a result, in classrooms across America , educators must find innovative ways through which to deal with unmotivated, underperforming students, particularly in math and science.  They are looking for new techniques for motivating students to learn.

VBS believes that the answer to engaging students in the learning process lies within the practice of “jazzing up” the curriculum, in making learning fun and exciting, and in demonstrating in real terms the true value of education, all while providing them with an essential knowledge base.

VBS is a dynamic learning experience designed to challenge students to excel in not only mathematics and sciences, but in technologies and the arts as well.  Though focusing largely on mathematics, sciences, technologies and the arts, VBS believes that participants will perform better in many other subject areas.
